GHRFC under 9’s Globe Tournament 02nd June 2018.

The boys turned up on a misty morning at Higham’s Playing Fields for their first competition, playing in the Globe Tournament.

The expectations were to go and enjoy the day but from the first kick off the boys were on super form.

From Travis in goal, to the lads in defence and going forward, they were unstoppable. We beat Wilpshire and Globe twice and won 1 and lost 1 against AHF to progress to the semi final.

The semi final against Ozzy Hawks was a physical game with both teams having chances. The game finished in a draw and went to penalties. Our first 3 penalty takers all scored and then it was sudden death. with GHR coming out winners.

On to the final, to play Cosby, an undefeated team all season from Liverpool. Another close game, we took the lead and held out with some strong defending  Unfortunately we couldn’t hold out and they scored on the last kick off the game, penalties again, Both teams scored both the first penalty, we scored the second and then Travis pulled of a great save, up stepped Ellis and smashed in the winner making us Tournament Champions.

What a great effort from all the lads and the time management by Marek and Mark was well planned, with all lads getting plenty of game time,  which was the ultimate aim.

Man of the tournament was Ellis, who was outstanding from the first minute to smashing in the winning penalty.
